| Agent Spotlight

This month’s agent spotlight features Cindy Sherrod, a REALTOR for Triangle Realty since 2006. The epitome of a pioneer woman, Cindy is a fourth generation landowner with almost 50 years of farming and ranching experience. Home-spun values and ideals coupled with common sense and credibility, create a confident real estate expert ready to serve an ever-wiser public.  Currently operating on the southeastern Gray County land homesteaded by her great-grandfather over 110 years ago, Cindy has extensive knowledge of Panhandle agribusiness operations.

In 2006, after spending over 20 years operating a farm and ranch in Armstrong County, Cindy began selling real estate. From combining to cow calling, Cindy has been engaged in virtually every phase of an agricultural enterprise; enhancing her ability to identify the needs of an agribusiness person, and effectively execute a plan of action to meet those needs.

Growing up in the rural Texas Panhandle, under the tutelage of two passionate parents, shaped Cindy’s career choices.  From the time she was three, she was on a horse any chance she got.  She grew up appreciating the romantic side of the cattle business: a saddled horse riding through a herd of good Herefords. She was also schooled in the business side of the industry; her father nearly always owning a set of two-year old heifers that would need to be calved. She learned good range management from her father, as well, as she observed proper grazing practices for pasture conservation and wise water policy.  Since her father was also a cattle buyer, she developed an aptitude for understanding the markets.

“These influences from my rural upbringing,” says Cindy, “provide a depth of understanding of what it takes to create a successful agricultural operation. I believe I bring a unique perspective to my clients and I have my Dad to thank for so much of this. I am sure he had no idea he was training me to sell real estate,” she says, with a soft smile, “Well, I really didn’t know that I was being trained for it either.”

Cindy is quick to mention that her father wasn’t the only influence; crediting her mother with her appreciation for beauty found in architecture, interior design and horticulture. “My mother had a knack for being able to see beauty and possibility in almost anything. I came home from college once and my bedspread had become the table cloth on the kitchen table,” she says with a chuckle.

“While the inside of our home was always beautiful, imaginative and tasteful due to my mother’s footprint, she really loved being outside more than anything.  On two occasions in my life, she transformed two non-existent country yards into landscapes which I thought should have been in a Southern Living magazine. Her style has influenced, or perhaps even become, my style, and this has been helpful when I find myself trying to help homebuyers see the possibilities in various properties. ”

When asked about other influences from her background, she recounts her days on the McLean Lady Tigers Basketball team, and then with the West Texas A&M Univeristy Buffaloes:  “As a four year member of the varsity basketball team, I played with one of the most prolific hoopsters in the history of Texas high school girls basketball.  All Sheri needed was for someone to get her the ball,” says Cindy of her former teammate, Sheri Haynes. “My job was to assist her in scoring.”

“I thought about that one day as I was looking back on my life. I realized that I had done a lot of assisting. It had started with helping Dad, and then transferred to basketball, and after 20 years of assisting my husband and my children, I figured I might as well begin a career that allowed me to continue doing just that: assisting others.  The real estate business was fascinating to me and I thought, ‘well, I can do this and I can help people in the process.’  Showing land and houses is really just like getting the ball to the one who can score. It may require a lob, a bounce pass or just a hand-off, but ultimately, I am here to make sure that my clients get the right pass at the right time. There is something to be said about customer service that you just can’t beat. I love helping people!”

Cindy Sherrod has become a player in the real estate market in the Texas Panhandle. Coming to understand the tools in her tool box and how to most effectively use them has allowed her the opportunity to fulfill the desire to be of maximum service to her fellow journeyers. This is best summed up in a recent quote from a letter of thanks written by one of Cindy’s clients. “I have found Cindy to have a solid handshake and a good word. She is country-raised with common sense.”

In her free time, Cindy enjoys golfing, gardening and spending time with her family: children Callie Bichsel of Slaton, TX and son Dee and daughter in law Shenee Bichsel of Claude, TX, as well as her brother, Joe Bill Sherrod of Amarillo, TX.
